A new creative space in Da Nang brings 12 Vietnamese craft villages together through interactive workshops. This development offers travel agents opportunities to diversify cultural itineraries, engage experience-focused travellers and introduce distinctive hands-on activities into Vietnam travel programmes.
The Hangart Brings Traditional Vietnamese Craft Villages Together
Located on Lac Long Quan Street in Dien Ban Dong Ward, Da Nang, The Hangart covers approximately 3,000 square metres, featuring recreations of 12 traditional craft villages and 16 handicraft workshops. Activities include traditional do paper making, Thanh Ha-inspired pottery, Kim Bong wood carving, folk painting, natural fabric dyeing and hand embroidery. Visitors can also create traditional cakes, herbal soaps and essential oils. Rather than simply observing artisans, participants learn production techniques and produce their own crafts.
According to the venue’s sales manager, international visitors account for more than 80% of its customers, with visitors particularly represented from Japan, China, Russia, the Philippines and Thailand. This is a venue-specific customer figure, rather than a measure of nationwide demand.
For travel agents, this provides an encouraging indication that hands-on Vietnamese heritage experiences can attract international audiences.
What the Latest Tourism Data Means for Travel Agents
The wider tourism environment also supports further product development. According to the Viet Nam National Authority of Tourism, Vietnam welcomed 17,680,714 international visitors during January–September 2026, representing 14.5% year-on-year growth. Meanwhile, Hanoi’s municipal government reported in March 2026 that the capital has 1,350 villages associated with crafts and traditional crafts, including 337 officially recognised craft villages, traditional craft villages and traditional crafts. These figures highlight two complementary opportunities: a growing international visitor base and a substantial supply of cultural heritage that could support differentiated tourism products.
However, higher visitor arrivals do not automatically demonstrate increased craft-tourism demand. Travel agencies should assess customer preferences and supplier performance before introducing new experiences.
Why Craft Workshops Create Commercial Opportunities
Traditional craft experiences can help travel companies increase the perceived value of existing programmes without requiring major changes to destination routing.
- For cultural travellers, a pottery or embroidery workshop offers direct engagement with Vietnamese heritage. Families may appreciate collaborative, educational activities, while special-interest groups can explore traditional techniques with experienced artisans.
- For agents, these experiences create opportunities to introduce optional paid activities, develop premium private programmes or differentiate packages competing on similar sightseeing itineraries.
They can also make cultural itineraries more participatory, allowing travellers to connect with the people and traditions behind the products they encounter.

Turning Craft Experiences into Sellable Vietnam Itineraries
Three product directions are particularly relevant:
- Central Vietnam Cultural Discovery: Incorporate a craft workshop into a Da Nang and Hoi An programme alongside heritage sightseeing and local culinary experiences.
- Family Cultural Learning: Combine lantern making, pottery or traditional painting with accessible cultural activities designed for families and multigenerational groups.
- Premium Slow Travel: Develop a more focused programme featuring guided artisan interactions, small-group workshops and opportunities to explore traditional Vietnamese craftsmanship.
These concepts allow travel agents to adjust experience depth, duration and inclusions according to customer interests and budgets.
Making Vietnamese Heritage Part of the Travel Experience
Vietnamese traditional craft villages offer travel agents opportunities to develop cultural products beyond conventional sightseeing. Initiatives such as The Hangart demonstrate how heritage can be presented through participation rather than observation alone.
For international travel agents, the commercial value lies in matching suitable workshops with the right traveller profiles, programme durations and service expectations. Thoughtful product design can turn traditional craftsmanship into a distinctive feature of a Vietnam itinerary while supporting cultural appreciation and local artisans.
