On the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2025), Vietnam Railways (VNR) will launch a special Thong Nhat train, not only to enhance passenger service but also to convey a deep sense of gratitude.
According to Mr. Hoang Gia Khanh, General Director of VNR, this special train recalls the glorious past and the historic April 30th, and is also a journey to pay tribute to generations of fathers, veterans and people with meritorious services to the revolution. Among the 800 passengers on board, many veterans and families of policy beneficiaries will enjoy the most preferential ticket price policy.

A special feature is that the ticketing software will display the image of the red flag with a yellow star, creating a joyful and heroic atmosphere to welcome the great ceremony. On the evening of April 29, two trains will depart simultaneously from Hanoi (8:55 p.m.) and Saigon (7 p.m.) and then meet at Da Nang station at 12:40 p.m. on April 30.
Explaining the meeting location, Mr. Khanh emphasized that Da Nang has a special connection meaning, symbolizing the Central region, near the 17th parallel – the place that once divided the country. Da Nang today is a major economic and social center, demonstrating the development of the whole country. The meeting moment of the two trains here carries a message of national unity, solidarity, gratitude for the past and looking forward to a bright future.
The special Reunification Train
The special Reunification Train is designed with the theme of the liberation of the South, promising to bring an emotional experience to passengers. The stations along the route will also be decorated with banners, posters and flags recreating the atmosphere of the victory day.
Throughout the journey, railway staff will wear red shirts with yellow stars, and heroic revolutionary songs will be played on the train. VNR will organize a solemn farewell ceremony for the train in Hanoi and Saigon on the evening of April 29, and a welcoming ceremony at Da Nang station on the afternoon of April 30, with a special welcome whistle.

Passengers on both trains will have the opportunity to look back at the history of the railway industry and the image of the 1975 Thong Nhat train through the exhibition area on board. VNR also coordinated with partners to prepare many surprise gifts for all passengers, especially those who have contributed to the revolution will receive a special letter of gratitude.
This is a special journey, not only a means of transportation but also a meaningful activity, recreating the heroic history and paying tribute to those who have contributed to the country on the occasion of the anniversary of national reunification.
