Phu Quoc, voted “the world’s second most beautiful island” by American magazine Travel + Leisure, welcomed 980,000 foreign tourists in the first seven months of this year, up 74% year-on-year.
The growth of foreign tourists, mainly from South Korea, China, India and Europe, is expected to keep the island on track to achieve its full-year goal of 1 million international visitors.
From May to July 2025, traditionally the low season for international tourists, Phu Quoc still attracted over 350,000 foreign visitors, marking an average monthly increase of nearly 80% compared to the same period in 2024, according to a report from An Giang Province Department of Tourism.
Statistics from Phu Quoc International Airport reveal significant increases in arrivals with Chinese visitors surging by 472%, Russian visitors up by 311%, and Korean visitors up by 178% compared to the same period last year.
Phu Quoc was recently named one of five Vietnamese destinations with the highest number of return visitors, according to digital travel platform Agoda.
The island has received multiple accolades from global travel publications. Recently, it ranked third on Travel + Leisure’s list of the 10 best islands in the Asia-Pacific, behind only Bali and Koh Samui.
Last year, it was voted the world’s second most beautiful island by Travel + Leisure readers, just after the Maldives.
